Welcome to West Oakland Camera Club. The main purpose of our club is to advance the photographic abilities of our members by sharing knowledge and techniques. Our meetings are always open to the public and we hope you will join us.
Our members also enjoy sharing their images in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. West Oakland has been in existence for over 20 years and we are affiliated with the Greater Detroit Camera Club Council (GDCCC).
We are no longer at the Kensington Nature Center. Our new home is located in the:
New Hudson United Methodist Church
56730 Grand River Ave.
New Hudson, MI 48165
The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM (except for November and December when we only meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month). The first meeting of the month is a digital competition. We compete in 5 categories: nature, color, monochrome, color creative, and an assignment which changes by month. We divide the photographers into 2 levels "champions" and "masters". (You begin as a "champion" and after scoring 100 points in digital competition, you become a "master".)
During the second meeting of the month a club member (or invited guest speaker) will often present an informative program on a variety of photographic topics. Sometimes, we also have print competitions on this night. Photographers and grouped into different levels there too.
You can keep in contact with other club members our Yahoo Group. You must be a member to join the group.
To further enhance your photographic skills visit our Photography 101 page. We also have links to other sites with photography tip and information.
Please note that members are not required to compete so don't let the competitions keep you away. If you enjoy viewing dazzling images, if you like taking pictures, if you want to improve your photography skills, if you like ideas on when and where to shoot or if you'd like to meet some down to earth folks who share your interests, please stop by.
If you'd like to become a member, look for Jerry Jordan (the club Treasurer) at the next meeting, pay your dues ($30 per member per year or $15 for the balance of the year if you join after June 30th) and pick up a club directory and other materials.
We look forward to meeting you.
